good friday

i am currently eating cap'n crunch sans crunch berries and thinking about Jesus

i'm thinking about good friday and the gospel of Mark
i'm thinking about a hundred songs titled "sealed with a kiss"
and love stories and first dates and romance
and the betrayal of the messiah, sealed with Judas' kiss in the middle of the night

i'm thinking about stories of women living with aids at casa de los memorias in tijuana, mexico
step-parents, diseased and abandoned
i'm remembering the young artist in jamaica, separated from her family because of abuse
and stories of refugee children, scarred by war and fear and death

and as i take communion, my share in the Lord's Supper
his body broken for me
his blood poured out for me
i remember Jesus, hanging on a cross between two of the worst
glorified in his suffering, present in ours



good friday is so good
